Jacquesson Champagne Extra Brut Cuvee 749
Regular price $97.98
96 Suckling - A minerally and citrusy wine with vibrant aromas of cedar, pastry, lemon curd, chalk, linden tree, dried oranges and yogurt. Medium-bodied with medium-sized bubbles, a creamy texture and zesty acidity. Sharp and chewy palate with super-polished extraction and strawberry flavors. Smooth and engaging length. Very classic and tense. Drink or hold.
94+ Dunnuck - The NV Champagne Cuvee 749 Extra Brut is based on the 2021 vintage and is composed of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir, with a little Meunier. The oldest reserve wine is from the 743 cuvée. In the glass, it displays a paler straw color compared to the 748, and this release has more verticality, with refreshing citrus notes shining through. It has a lot of personality, but it’s fresh, compact, and salty, with strawberries and a light hint of spice in the mousse. The acidity lends a chalky texture to its notes of orange and lemon zest, and for me, the Chardonnay takes the lead in this release, showcasing a focused structure and refreshing acidity. I think this has a lot of potential.
92 Vinous - The NV Extra-Brut Cuvée No. 749 (base 2021) is laced with hints of tropical fruit, dried flowers, chamomile, passion fruit and lightly honeyed overtones.  Open-knit aromatics are immediately expansive, giving the wine palpable textural breadth.  The No. 749 is soft, open-knit and very easy to drink.
Jacquesson Champagne Extra Brut Cuvée 749 is the latest chapter in one of Champagne’s most distinctive ongoing series. Rather than trying to make an identical non-vintage wine year after year, Jacquesson embraces the character of each harvest, assigning each release its own number. Cuvée 749 is centered on the 2021 vintage, supplemented by reserve wines to add depth and complexity.
The style is unmistakably Jacquesson: vinous, dry, energetic and intensely terroir-driven rather than simply fruity or crowd-pleasing. Chardonnay brings citrus, white flowers and chalky tension; Pinot Noir contributes structure and breadth; Meunier adds flesh and an appealing orchard-fruit character. Look for lemon zest, crisp pear, green apple and white peach, gradually opening into toasted almond, fresh bread, subtle spice and a distinctly savory, saline mineral note.
What really distinguishes 749 is its tension and precision. The dosage is deliberately low, allowing the wine’s acidity and mineral backbone to remain front and center. Yet it isn't austere—the extended élevage and reserve components provide enough texture and richness to balance all that freshness. The mousse is fine and persistent, and the finish is long, chalky, mouthwatering and slightly smoky.
Jacquesson has become something of a bridge between the great historic Champagne houses and the modern grower movement: the polish and experience of an established maison, but with the parcel-conscious, low-dosage, terroir-first mentality.
Shipping Policy
- Unless your delivery address is on the West Coast, we strongly discourage you from selecting “Ground Service” as your shipping method. During the winter and summer months, weather conditions (temperature) and longer delivery times can often result in the spoilage of your order. It doesn’t make sense to invest in fine wines and then take the chance of ruining them due environmental factors during transit (faster and safer delivery generally isn’t much more expensive). We don’t make an additional profit on accelerated delivery, but we frequently recommend faster shipping options to our customers outside the West Coast.
- You must be 21 years of age to order or receive alcoholic beverages. Any shipments containing alcoholic beverages are sent with an “Adult Signature Required” sticker, and the common carrier that delivers our merchandise is required to ask and check for identification upon delivery. This means that an adult will have to be present at the time of delivery. Please consider shipping to an office address.
- During periods of extreme weather, we attempt to ship wines at the beginning of each week in order to get shipments to you before the weekend. This is because we have no control over the temperature conditions at our freight carriers’ warehouses. The result may be that your shipment doesn’t go out the day that you place an order.
- We ship by Fedex or Fedex Ground. Our prices include packaging materials. Insurance may be available for an additional charge.
- Vintage Wine Merchants, Inc. will arrange for shipment on behalf of the buyer, to an address specified by the buyer, provided that Vintage Wine Merchants, Inc. in its sole judgment believes that such shipment will not subject Vintage Wine Merchants, Inc. to the risk of any sort of legal action or other harm. If a buyer lives in a state where the direct shipment of wine by Vintage Wine Merchants, Inc. violates the law, we suggest that the buyer provide an alternative address in another state or have their wine shipped to a third-party storage facility in a direct shipping-friendly state.
- Various states impose limitations on the quantity of alcoholic beverages that may be purchased and brought into their jurisdiction by a purchaser from another state without requiring the purchaser, a seller or shipper to possess certain licenses or permits. Vintage Wine Merchants, Inc. does not, as a condition of sale, assume any obligation nor bear any responsibility whatsoever for applying or obtaining any permits or licenses. Therefore, we recommend that you investigate the possibility of such limitations, and determine the manner in which alcoholic beverages shall be brought into your state from California, so as to comply with all of your state’s requirements.
