The 2025 Chichibu U.S. Edition is another brilliant example of why Ichiro Akuto is regarded as one of the most innovative figures in modern Japanese whisky. Produced exclusively for the U.S. market in an extremely limited run of just 16 carefully selected casks, this release showcases Chichibu's willingness to experiment while never losing sight of balance and elegance. Bottled at 52.5% ABV, it is non-chill filtered and naturally colored.

Unlike previous U.S. Editions that highlighted Mizunara oak or subtle peat, the 2025 release explores the influence of beer cask maturation. The whisky is composed of 5- to 9-year-old single malts matured in a combination of ex-bourbon, ex-IPA, and ex-imperial stout barrels. Rather than imparting overt beer flavors, the IPA and stout casks lend vibrant citrus lift, tropical fruit, gentle roasted notes, and a pleasantly bittersweet complexity that complements Chichibu's naturally fruit-forward spirit.

The nose is immediately expressive, revealing aromas of candied orange peel, dried pineapple, vanilla pastry cream, honey, citrus zest, fresh malt, and delicate oak, accented by subtle floral notes and a whisper of smoke from the lightly peated malt. Hints of hops and pine resin add freshness and intrigue without overwhelming the whisky's elegant profile.

On the palate, the whisky is rich and energetic. Waves of tropical fruit, baked citrus, creamy vanilla, malted barley, and honey are joined by layers of espresso, cocoa, toasted grain, and the distinctive herbal bitterness of well-aged IPA casks. Despite its cask-strength presentation, the texture remains remarkably silky and balanced, with Chichibu's trademark precision keeping every element in harmony.

The finish is long, warming, and memorable, lingering with orange zest, vanilla cream, gentle coffee notes, oak spice, and a pleasantly dry hop bitterness that invites another sip. It is an adventurous whisky that rewards slow contemplation while remaining unmistakably Chichibu.

Unless your delivery address is on the West Coast, we strongly discourage you from selecting “Ground Service” as your shipping method. During the winter and summer months, weather conditions (temperature) and longer delivery times can often result in the spoilage of your order. It doesn’t make sense to invest in fine wines and then take the chance of ruining them due environmental factors during transit (faster and safer delivery generally isn’t much more expensive). We don’t make an additional profit on accelerated delivery, but we frequently recommend faster shipping options to our customers outside the West Coast.
You must be 21 years of age to order or receive alcoholic beverages. Any shipments containing alcoholic beverages are sent with an “Adult Signature Required” sticker, and the common carrier that delivers our merchandise is required to ask and check for identification upon delivery. This means that an adult will have to be present at the time of delivery. Please consider shipping to an office address.
During periods of extreme weather, we attempt to ship wines at the beginning of each week in order to get shipments to you before the weekend. This is because we have no control over the temperature conditions at our freight carriers’ warehouses. The result may be that your shipment doesn’t go out the day that you place an order.
We ship by Fedex or Fedex Ground. Our prices include packaging materials. Insurance may be available for an additional charge.
