2020 Bodega Sierra Salinas Monastrall Mira Salinas

Regular price $15.98

93 Jeb Dunnuck - Coming from limestone soils and all Monastrell, raised in new, second, third, and fourthuse French oak barriques, the 2020 Mira Salinas Monastrell sports a vivid purple hue and offers remarkable purity in its crème de cassis, crushed violets, spice box, crushed stone, and graphite nuances. It's concentrated, medium to full-bodied, has remarkable purity, and ripe tannins.

91 Wine Enthusiast - This deep violet-red colored wine has a nose of blackberry and smoked bacon. A touch of smoke continues on the palate, joined by fluid tannins and black cherry, Mission fig, milk chocolate, orange zest and mint flavors with a touch of earthiness on the finish.

Also known as Mataro or Mourvedre.

In 2013, the Miñano and Gómez families, owners of MGWine Group, purchased Bodega Sierra Salinas, a winery founded in 2000 by the Castaño family of Yecla. Since 2013, the philosophy of the Miñano and Gómez families has been to restore focus on the vineyards, by converting all of them to organic and dry farming. The temptation in such an arid climate as Alicante is to irrigate, but dry farming in this zone forces the root structures to grow deep and produces bunches with a tremendous natural balance of phenolic ripeness and healthy pH. They have also minimized the impact of new oak barrique in their wines, and at this price point, are creating a completely unique style of Monastrell from Alicante.
