95 Decanter - Tricky to taste from barrel, as it had just finished its malolactic fermentation, but this is still an impressive wine, made with purchased grapes from the Grand Maupertuis climat. There's no new wood here at all, so what you get is red plum and red cherry fruit, filigree tannins and chalky acidity.

92-94 Wine Advocate - From one parcel in the lieu-dit Petit Maupertuis and another located below the Château de Latour, the 2017 Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru offers up a brooding bouquet of smoky berries, incense, dark chocolate and rich soil tones. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and layered with a fleshy core of fruit, rich structuring tannins and a quintessentially blocky profile that's built for the long haul. Abel notes that after the 2016 frosts, the vineyard team made special efforts to control yields in the Clos Vougeot. The 2017 vintage is Domaine Ponsot's first since the departure of Laurent Ponsot, so I'm delighted to report that it's not merely a resounding success for the new team, but that Ponsot has produced some of the wines of the vintage. What has changed? The new team has made a few small refinements in technique. Fixed must lines, for example, are no longer used to transport the grapes from destemmer to tank: instead, the berries fall into a sump that's emptied into the tanks by forklift—a technique both more delicate and more sanitary. White grapes are no longer crushed before pressing. But the Ponsot style—characterized by late harvesting, complete destemming and élevage without any new oak—is faithfully respected. As is often the case, the domaine was among the last to harvest in the Côte de Nuits, and that decision seems to have paid off in the form of wines that are among the most concentrated and intense of the vintage, and which show not the slightest.

90-92 - Burghound - An unusually spicy (for Clos de Vougeot) nose offers up cool and airy aromas of various red berries, floral and earth nuances that are trimmed in a hint of oak. There is once again good volume, mid-palate concentration and punch to the sappy flavors that conclude in a powerful finish that also flirts with dryness though it is less evident than in the Cuvée des Alouettes as here it seems more likely that the tannins will eventually round out.

Unless your delivery address is on the West Coast, we strongly discourage you from selecting “Ground Service” as your shipping method. During the winter and summer months, weather conditions (temperature) and longer delivery times can often result in the spoilage of your order. It doesn’t make sense to invest in fine wines and then take the chance of ruining them due environmental factors during transit (faster and safer delivery generally isn’t much more expensive). We don’t make an additional profit on accelerated delivery, but we frequently recommend faster shipping options to our customers outside the West Coast.
You must be 21 years of age to order or receive alcoholic beverages. Any shipments containing alcoholic beverages are sent with an “Adult Signature Required” sticker, and the common carrier that delivers our merchandise is required to ask and check for identification upon delivery. This means that an adult will have to be present at the time of delivery. Please consider shipping to an office address.
During periods of extreme weather, we attempt to ship wines at the beginning of each week in order to get shipments to you before the weekend. This is because we have no control over the temperature conditions at our freight carriers’ warehouses. The result may be that your shipment doesn’t go out the day that you place an order.
We ship by Fedex or Fedex Ground. Our prices include packaging materials. Insurance may be available for an additional charge.
