93 Vinous - The 2023 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is open-knit, plush and very nicely built. A surprising amount of graphite minerality opens first, lending complexity to the concentrated yet weightless dark berry fruit and subtle tea-like tannins. Finessed, polished and expressive, the 2023 boasts the hallmark Kosta Browne supple, velvety texture. All the elements come together effortlessly.

The 2023 Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is the more coastal, savory and structured sibling to Kosta Browne’s richer Russian River bottling. The cool 2023 season suits the style beautifully, delivering plenty of Kosta Browne's trademark fruit and silky texture while retaining freshness and tension.

The nose combines wild blueberry, crushed red plum and raspberry with florals, cedar and a subtle eucalyptus/herbal note. On the palate, black currant, raspberry and pomegranate meet black tea, cinnamon, earthy spice and a graphite-like mineral quality. It's plush but not heavy, with lively acidity, refined tannins and a long, graceful finish. Kosta Browne describes the wine as capturing the Sonoma Coast with “poise and vibrancy.”

There's good pedigree in the blend: fruit comes from Gap's Crown, Marshall, Pratt-Sexton, Crane Canyon, Thorn Ridge and Pepperwood. Fermentation was 65% stainless steel, 20% oak and 15% concrete, with 8% whole cluster. It was raised for 16 months with 40% new French oak, along with neutral barrels and foudre, before a final month in stainless steel. It's 14.2% alcohol.

Compared with the 2023 Russian River Valley: I'd characterize the RRV as riper, rounder and more overtly seductive—raspberry, dark cherry, blackberry, plum and cocoa—while the Sonoma Coast is cooler-toned, more savory and more structured, emphasizing blue/red fruit, tea, herbs, earth and spice. Interestingly, both are 14.2% and both see 40% new French oak, so the stylistic difference really does come through the vineyard sources and coastal influence.

Unless your delivery address is on the West Coast, we strongly discourage you from selecting “Ground Service” as your shipping method. During the winter and summer months, weather conditions (temperature) and longer delivery times can often result in the spoilage of your order. It doesn’t make sense to invest in fine wines and then take the chance of ruining them due environmental factors during transit (faster and safer delivery generally isn’t much more expensive). We don’t make an additional profit on accelerated delivery, but we frequently recommend faster shipping options to our customers outside the West Coast.
You must be 21 years of age to order or receive alcoholic beverages. Any shipments containing alcoholic beverages are sent with an “Adult Signature Required” sticker, and the common carrier that delivers our merchandise is required to ask and check for identification upon delivery. This means that an adult will have to be present at the time of delivery. Please consider shipping to an office address.
During periods of extreme weather, we attempt to ship wines at the beginning of each week in order to get shipments to you before the weekend. This is because we have no control over the temperature conditions at our freight carriers’ warehouses. The result may be that your shipment doesn’t go out the day that you place an order.
We ship by Fedex or Fedex Ground. Our prices include packaging materials. Insurance may be available for an additional charge.
