The Maker's Mark Wood Finishing Series began with the creation of Maker’s Mark 46®. It started with a barrel of fully matured Maker’s Mark at cask strength and then inserted 10 seared virgin French oak staves – stave profile 46 – into the barrel and finished the bourbon for nine additional weeks in the limestone cellar. The result was a remarkably smooth, yet distinctly bolder and more complex whisky.
The Vintage Wine Merchants Private Selection begins with the same fully matured Maker’s Mark at cask strength and then 10 different oak staves were included to make our "Vinny's Pick" personal handpicked and flavor profiled barrel.
It has a warm nose has a brown sugar, dried fruits and vanilla. The flavor is of sweet milk / dark chocolate, dried figs, spice and toasted hazel nut.
Each stave adds a different flavor and profile.
One Stave Baked American Pure Virgin American Oak
Four Staves Seared French Cuvee adds notes of Brown Sugar, vanilla, caramel and spice.
One Stave Maker's Mark 46 - adds notes of dried fruits, vanilla and spice.
Three Staves Roasted French Mendiant adds notes of milk chocolate, nuts and dried dark fruits.
One Stave Toast French Spice adds notes of Smoke, coumarin and spice.
