Produced from organically farmed vineyards in Valréas at the northern edge of the Southern Rhône, the blend is 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Carignan, fermented and aged exclusively in concrete to preserve freshness and purity of fruit.

The nose is immediately expressive with ripe black cherry, raspberry, blackberry, cracked pepper, licorice, dried Provençal herbs, and hints of lavender and warm stone. The palate is supple and medium-bodied, offering juicy red and dark berry fruit framed by silky tannins and vibrant acidity. Notes of garrigue, spice, and a subtle mineral edge add complexity before a clean, savory finish that invites another sip. The absence of oak keeps the wine bright, energetic, and exceptionally food-friendly.

***

On 100 hectares of land in the hills above the village of Valréas, a beautiful Provençal house, surrounded by olive and truffle oak trees, lavender fields, and thick forest, is the center of the idyllic micro-estate of Domaine du Seminaire. The vineyards are near the northern limit of ripening Grenache, in the colder foothills of the Alps, where they are swept by the strong mistral winds.

Hervé Pouizin is the fourth generation to farm this land; he and his wife, Mathilde, have preserved the self-sufficient estate mostly as it was a century ago, with one key exception: they converted everything to organic farming. Fermenting their wines in the same huge concrete tanks since 1938, the couple takes an old-school approach to winemaking and uses no oak. They produce high-toned, bright, floral wines, in keeping with their region and elevation, bottled early to preserve the fruit and with minimal sulfur.

These wines offer a fantastic value, as they are humble, pretty wines done exceptionally well.

Côtes du Rhône is a wine-growing Appellation for the Rhône wine region of France, which may be used throughout the region, also in those areas which are covered by other AOCs. Côtes du Rhône are the basic AOC wines of the Rhône region, and exist as red, white and rosé wines, generally dominated by Grenache for reds and rosés, or Grenache blanc for whites. Though numerous other varietals are allowed such as:

Red varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Carignan, Counoise, Picpoul.

White varieties: Grenache blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne, Bourboulenc, Viognier, Picpoul blanc
