92 Wine Advocate - The 2012 Saumur Blanc Clos Romans comes from an almost 1,000-year-old clos located in the village of Parnay and planted with 10,000 mass-selected vines per hectare. The must of the handpicked Chenin grapes was naturally fermented in 400-liter oval barrels of for two months before the young wine aged for nine months on its fines lees. Straw yellow with a greenish hue, the wine offers a deep, complex, concentrated, fresh and very elegant bouquet of white and yellow pip and stone fruits, citrus flavors, flowers and vegetal aromas, along with a delicate yeasty layer. There is an ironlike minerality and a limey freshness on the powerful, well-structured palate lending this pure and linear Chenin very good length and tension. The finish reveals nutty and slightly oxidative aromas of a real complex wine with real character. These white wines are supremely fresh with finely fruity notes. Destined to be consumed quickly, they nevertheless have a good aging potential and develop an extremely delicate bouquet.
