Domaine de Marquiliani Rose

At the good ‘ol Vintage Wine Merchants, there are a few wines each year that the staff gobble up on release.   The Domaine de Marquiliani Rose from Corsica is one of those wines.

Hauntingly aromatic, lightly colored, light on its feet and intensely minerally,  Domaine de Marquiliani Rose is best described by importer Kermit Lynch,

"Drinking her rosé is like drinking a cloud. There's an absolute weightlessness to it. Nothing is left on the palate but perfume."

Domaine de Marquiliani Rose are precise and focused with a purpose.   Mouth-watering salinity, intensely mineral driven with proper texture and haunting aromatics.   Generous lip-smacking flavors that burst from the flavor cornucopia: soft berry, citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruit, spring flower.   Amazing wines that well-priced and utterly satisfying.

WHAT THE HECK IS SCIACCARELLU???

The Sciaccarellu grape is grown in Corsica on terraced vineyards of decomposed granite / schist in the vicinity of Corsica’s highest point, Mount Renosu.    The schist soil and excellent drainage along with cool Mediterraean breezes – all works in balance to create a dynamic growing microclimate.  The wine made from this grape is highly perfumed wines, but it is typically used as a blender and not often made as a single varietal.

The Domaine de Marquiliani Rose Le Rose de Pauline, though lighter in color, is rounder and more generous than the Rose Gris.  The Rose Gris is more focused and laser cut.

BUT HOW DO YOU SAY SCIACCARELLU?  YOUTUBE KNOWS ALL!!

THE FARMERS:

There’s also the story about the daughter that went to the university and studied to become a farm chemist.   She came back and is strutting her stuff and doing it right – producing world class olive oil and wine from a little ‘ol Corsican farm.   Read more :  Domaine de Marquiliani
